Melissa Hixson LCSW, CCTP

Melissa Hixson is a graduate of Temple University where she earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work. She has worked in the social work/mental health field for 25 years in a variety of settings, including office-based outpatient therapy, school-based outpatient therapy and in-home family therapy. Melissa is a Certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapist, a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, as well as a Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider. She employs EMDR and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy modalities and enjoys working with pre-adolescents, adolescents, young adults and adults. Melissa’s areas of particular interest are trauma, depression, anxiety, grief/loss and other stressful experiences impacting the wellbeing of individuals. Melissa’s passion in working as a therapist is to work collaboratively with individuals (and their support system as appropriate), guiding them towards hope, healing, growth and change. She values an integrative approach in the wellness journey that focuses on emotional, mental, physical and spiritual health.

Samuel Lowe LCSW, CCTP

Samuel Lowe is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  He earned his Master of Social Work, (MSW) from Temple University.  He has been certified as a Master Tobacco Treatment Specialist through the University of Pennsylvania.  He is also a certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) practitioner specializing in a variety of trauma focused modalities to treat anxiety, depression, PTSD, addictions and other mental health disorders.  In addition, Samuel has been certified in domestic abuse counseling, clinical hypnotherapy, and Rational Living Therapy.  For the past twenty plus years, Samuel has worked with at risk youth with a strong clinical background in trauma and mental health.  Samuel uses a client centered approach to his service delivery.  His particular areas of interest are couples therapy, working with family systems, grief and loss issues, mental health and interpersonal development to include smoking cessation.  He works with both adults and school aged children. 

Rachel Feidet LAPC, NCC, CGP

Rachel Feidt is a graduate of Messiah University where she earned her Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Rachel has been working in the mental health field since 2011 in a variety of settings, including office-based outpatient therapy, group homes, schools, and community. Rachel is a Certified Grief Informed Professional, a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, a National Certified Counselor, and a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor. She is working towards becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She is working on certifications for EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Attachment-Centered Play Therapy (ACPT). Rachel most enjoys working with kids, grief, groups and couples.

She also enjoys providing support to those in all walks of life to help develop a sense of autonomy and compassion for oneself. She enjoys going to the movies, shopping, and spending time with her husband and two miniature dachshunds, Buster, and Cocoa. Her favorite hobbies include getting manis and pedis, the Philadelphia Phillies, and spending her summer vacationsin Rehobeth Beach, DE. Her professional goals and interests are to pursue a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) license within the states of Pennsylvania and Delaware working in play and music therapies for children who have experienced grief and loss.

Cheryl Woodcock LCSW, ACS, PsyT

Cheryl obtained both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in social work from Temple University. She has also completed an additional 18 graduate credits in Psychology at The University of Southern California. She is an Approved Clinical Supervisor via the National Board Of Certified Counselors. She finds her passion is the study of trauma and obtained a PsyT as a Psychotraumatologist via additional study. A psychotraumatologist is a mental health professional who specializes in the study, prevention, and treatment of psychological trauma and its effects. This specialist uses an interdisciplinary approach, integrating knowledge from psychology, neuroscience, and other fields to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to survivors. Cheryl started Newport Counseling Center in 2007 on 2nd street in Newport. She considers herself to be a lifelong learner and feels a passion for the field of traumatology and the brain/body connection, taking on a holistic approach. She has been certified in EMDR since 2009 and her main focus is to work with clients to develop and achieve the goals that led them to seek counseling. She works mainly with individuals aged 14 and older.

Sheri Shoemaker LPC

Sheri is our newest therapist in the practice. She currently works via telehealth only. She will be adding her bio soon.

Julie Martzall LCSW, CCTP, CIMHP

Julie Martzall is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Temple University. She is certified in EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing), TF-CBT (Trauma focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), PCIT (Parent-Child Interactional Therapy) and is a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional. Julie has over 25 years of experience working with children, teens, and families to navigate the mental health, juvenile justice, and welfare system. The modalities utilized help to address anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other mental health disorders. Her areas of interest are working with people experiencing transitions in life; adults and children working through past trauma, parents that are trying to improve their young child’s behaviors and attachments, adults who are adjusting to changes as their children reach adulthood, adults who are struggling with taking care of children and aging parents and those transitioning from working to retirement.

Sarah Kimber LCSW, CCTP

Sarah is a graduate of Temple University with a Masters's Degree in Social Work. Prior to working as a therapist, Sarah spent more than ten years working directly with children with autism in the home and school settings. Sarah is certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, is a Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider and has training in EMDR and DBT. Sarah most enjoys working with adolescents, teens, and adults to provide support in individuals finding their personal strengths and developing skills to navigate all of life's complicated situations. She values the worth of each individual and their unique strengths and bases all treatment on their unique situations.

Lori R. Amey, LCSW

Lori graduated from Widener University with a Master’s Degree in Social Work, subsequently earning her LSW and then LCSW. She has her CCTP (Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, CMHIMP (Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider), certification in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) treatment for trauma, and Parent Child Interactional Therapy (PCIT). Her clients include children, adolescents and adults.

Lori believes in a holistic approach to therapy with an emphasis on the importance of self care and self compassion.
